Modified Vehicle Competition

3 big reasons you can enjoy the Modified Vehicle Competition more this year than ever before.

1. Power to the people

This year for the first year ever, the Modified Vehicle Competition will be judged by YOU the visiting public!  Grab a voting slip as you make your way into the show and make sure you take a good look round all five categories of Modified Vehicles and select your favourite in each group.  Then simply return your voting slip and that’s all there is to it: instant power.

2. Prizes, prizes, prizes

There are more prizes than ever before this year and all are welcome to come and see the prize ceremony before the show is out.  The prize for 'Overall Best in Show' voted for by Editor of Total Off Road magazine, none other than Mr Alan Kidd, will be £500 of solid cash plus a free ticket to one of the Total Off Road Live weekends at Kirton Off Road Centre (visit www.totaloffroadlive.co.uk for more details of the event).  The vehicle with the most votes in each of the five categories will also win £100 cash plus a free year's subscription to Total Off Road Magazine.

3. No more freezing your assets

However popular, in past years the Modified Vehicle Competition has always been hampered by its outdoor position meaning that families were forced to hold on to their hats and brave the elements to take a scout round the competitors.  And although this meant a vast increase in the sales of Total Off Road fleeces and hats on the day, we’ve come to the decision that this year, we’d be kind enough to bring everything indoors, so that you can relax and make yourselves at home from the moment you set foot in Bingley Hall.

Remote-Control Rock-Crawling with GB Models

Playtime

We are delighted to announce that at this year’s British Indoor 4x4 Show, a spectacular action-packed rock-crawling feature area has been confirmed, on a tiny-huge scale.

GB Models have taken on the challenge to create an original and bespoke rock-crawling remote-control course specifically for this year’s British Indoor 4x4 Show.  And with an area of 180 square metres to work with they certainly have some plans up their sleeves for a course that won’t disappoint.

On the course will be two types of remote control vehicle.  Firstly there will be Scale Off Road 4x4s on display. These models are created with significant time and effort and we are sure that if you know your full size versions you will quickly notice such details as working Warn winches, tyres scaled from full size tread and well known brands.

In addition to this, GB Models will also have their Competition Rock Crawlers on display and in action for everyone to see. Fascinating machines that are able to climb angles of over 65 degrees, these Rock Crawlers run with permanent four-wheel drive and locked diffs, pretty much like the real thing.

The course itself consists of a number of gates or markers at a set distance apart. The basic rules of competition are very similar to full size off road rules. Drivers are penalised for touching a gate marker, and lose points for reversing as well as a few other penalties.

R/C Rock Crawling has become a serious hobby for some, but for all those visiting the British Indoor 4x4 Show this March, it’s simply another set of 4x4s to drool over.  And luckily for you, it’s set up right next to the restaurant, so you can kick-back and relax over lunch and see if you can understand the massive interest in this relatively new form of radio control.

And if you ask nicely, you might even be able to give it a go yourself...

TOR's Live Workshop with Macsport 4x4

The latest addition to the TOR fleet, Project Range Rover has actually been the editor’s property for almost ten years. Only problem is, it’s spent the last six of them in a hedge.

Having recently dragged it back out (which took two Land Cruisers and a tractor, all chained together), we trailered it to Macsport 4x4, where Paul McCleary has volunteered to turn it into something interesting. What that will be, time will tell, but Paul’s known for his stock of portal axles and the ed’s known for his inability to resist the pull of a really huge engine, so you can probably take a guess at what’s in store for the old girl.

First, though, there’s an awful lot of remedial work to be done before the fun can start. And that’s what you’ll see happening at the show. Paul’s team will be dismantling the Rangey as the day goes on, laying bare just how bad it’s become during those six years.

Expect some horrors, a lot of laughs and no small amount of metal falling on the floor, much of it in powdered form. By the time Macsport have finished with it, our Rangey is going to look magnificent; in the meantime, check in to see just what a shed it is we’re starting off with…

Cinema brought to you by Total Off Road Live

Time to chill

The cinema at the show has been designed for you to chill out and relax in the relative piece and quiet of a off-road cinema, where you can delight in hours of unspoilt footage from last year's Total Off Road Live event at Kirton Off Road Centre.  While you're here, why not pick up some information about this summer's events at Kirton?
