Modified Vehicle Competition 2010

 

After a lot of hard work and some very difficult decisions, the final 5 categories and the 8 vehicles within each of them have been finalised.  Editor of Total Off Road magazine, Alan Kidd, was helped by his editorial team to work through the dozens of entries we were inundated with this year - indeed, the number of entries as well as the variety and level of entrants has raised each year we've run the show, and this year was no exception.  Enjoy some footage of the decision-making process undertaken below, and further down, get your teeth into the chosen 40!

Formerly a TD5 and very slow!  After my modifications it's now very fast!

STORY

I have owned this truck for 2 years. It was totally standard when I got it and I have carried out all the work myself. It's a work truck, a family truck and an off road truck all in one. It's entered in the 2010 Help for Heroes Euro Rally.  I believe L200s need to be present at the show to get some recognition of how good off road they actually are!

STORY

I bought the Land Cruiser completely standard, since then I have stripped it down to a bare shell, resprayed it MG Xpower grey, and carried out the modifications listed to a high standard.  The truck is in daily use and has never let me down, including on a trip to the south of France in the heat of summer.

I bought this vehicle half-done just over six months ago.  It was intended to be used as a safari racer, but over the past few months I have slowly been converting it into a challenge truck.

Me and a mate thought of doing a body lift to help the wheels clear and we found some rust, so we decided to make it into a pick-up.  Later I blew the diffs up and bolted on a Td5 Disco axle.

This is my pride and joy, Pitch Black!  It's been modified for 'fast road' use.  All mods have been done by me and my Dad over the last five years.  It won the fastest Land Rover at Santa Pod last year.  It will do 130mph (on a track of course!) and if I had another gear I'm sure it would do 150mph.

I've has the Land Rover for more than twenty-five years.  It was written off in a head-on crash and that's when the mods started.  All the work was done by my Grandson at the age of ten.  He is now twenty-seven and the truck is still going strong.

STORY

I attempted to drive through a lake at Farley Quarry and the car floated out into the middle and drowned, with me not quick enough with the ignition and no snorkel at the time this resulted in me having to replace the engine.  On a more recent green laning trip, my wife destroyed the gearbox leaving us stranded with a one-year old in the car.  We limped to the end of the lane in third gear and got recovered.
